Overview of Dr.Ambedkar Government Law Collge Chennai

Dr.AGLC is situated in the heart of the Chennai city . It's well known in the past century as Madras Law College.The old campus of the building is a standing example of heritage, designed by Govt.Architect Mr. Henry Irwing of the colonial British Empire. The building represents Indo– sacranic style,a combination of both Muslim and Hindu culture built during 1891.

The quadrangle of the building in the ground floor consists of 4 elevated magnificient class rooms which could accomodate 300 students at a time which is an added feature of the campus.

A two storeyed block with 7 spacious classrooms and other rooms where constructed in 1976 and an auditorium with a capacity of 1000 occupants can be accomodated at a time.The campus satisfies the needs of the students who aspire to take up law within the state of Tamil Nadu.

The campus provides hostel facilities to both men and women students. The campus has an age old library which was shifted to a new building premises and has rarest of rare collection of books , journals and online database. The campus is adored by Madras High Court Buildings that enables a student to have a good exposure to court.It's student friendly as they can take up internship, apprenticeship and training during the course. The campus has the record of conducting National rounds of the Phillip C.Jessup Moot court Competion in 2006, National Moot Court Competitions, various programmes such as National seminars, and State level workshops. The campus is the centre for conducting CLAT and Bar Council Exams.

The contemporaneans such as constitutional maker Mr.Alladi Krishnaswamy, The Former President of India R.Venkatraman,The Former Supreme court Hon'ble Justice S.Mohan,The Hon'ble Justice Rathnavel Pandian and the present Governmient of India Finance Minister P.Chidambaram,The Hon'ble Former Chief Justice of India Pathanjali Shasthri are some of the notable past alumni of the college.
